Ingredients
- 3/4 stick of butter
- 7/8 cup all purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- pinch of salt
- 4 tbsp dark rum
- 3 eggs
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 10 1/2 oz dark chocolate melted (I used 70%)
Preparation
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
- Butter a 8 X 8 inch baking pan
- Sift flour together with baking soda and cocoa powder
- Melt butter and mix it into the flour mixture together with a pinch of salt and the rum
- Beat the eggs with the sugar until light and airy and add to the batter
- Add the melted chocolate and mix well
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for about 35 minutes
Since I don't have a double boiler I used a sauce pan filled 1/4 with water and capped with a Pyrex bowl that sat just above the water level. I brought the water to a boil and allowed the chocolate to slowly melt while stirring occassionally.
Ooh a splash of rum! I'm actually surprised that this is the first time that I have heard of adding rum to brownies?! What a great idea! Sounds delicious. And I believe that Concannon is the oldest winery in California, it is truly stunning there!
